YOU’VE GOT A FRIEND: The Music Of The Brill Building

A Spot-On Production

Available for PACs with piano and bass or as full symphony concert.

In the middle of New York City, in the heart of Times Square, sits The Brill Building.

From the halls and offices of 1619 Broadway came the sound of America in the 50s and 60s — considered by many to be the greatest music ever written. The Brill Building was home to Carole King, Neil Sedaka, Lieber & Stoller, Neil Diamond, and Barry Mann & Cynthia Weill among others. The songs they wrote changed the sound of popular music and became some of the most iconic songs of all time. “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,””Where the Boys Are,””Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,””You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin'” and “On Broadway” all came from the famed music factory. And the music didn’t stop there. The writers continued to climb the charts decades after their Brill days — but it was the building that brought them all together. Multi-award winning vocalist Scott Coulter takes you on a journey into the music — and the stories — of the singers and the songs that defined a generation.

Stephen Schwartz, Academy Award and Grammy-winning composer

“One of the best things that can happen to a songwriter is to have his or her material interpreted by Scott Coulter. It’s not just Scott’s amazing vocal instrument, but how he uses it to paint vivid pictures and evoke complex emotions.”
